About Us - In the Beginning

Deeside Netball Club was formed over 30 years ago, at the Deeside Leisure Centre in Queensferry, North Wales. The club was derived from a group of housewives who attended a recreational badminton session and some schoolgirls from the local high school Merle Hamilton and Jane Knight were the founders of Deeside Netball Club in 1977.

The club began with a meeting in the Deeside Leisure Centre Crèche, with the then Leisure Centre Sports Officer, Phil Webb and about 10 young women who at the time were aged between 15 & 30 years old.

Most of the women were young housewives with children and some young players from John Summers High School came to join. The Buckley League at the Buckley Sports Centre was where teams played on a regular basis, so we joined this league, sorted out a one-hour training session for a Tuesday evening and so we began.

At the League we met Kath Evans, who was the County secretary and she helped us by inviting us to come along to county training sessions and get involved more with netball. From there we have gone from strength to strength - The current Senior Teams play in the Northern league, the Cheshire Elite League and the North-East Wales Netball League during the Winter season and during the Summer League, Deeside is represented by teams drawn from all squads.

We now have more than 170 members, are Division 1 Champions, and have Junior Welsh Champions amongst our ranks

Deeside Netball Club Committee

The committee organises and runs all club business through the year during both the netball and non-netball seasons. Members are elected annually at the AGM and meet monthly to discuss club matters. All meetings are minuted and any club member as able to attend a meeting and request copies of those minutes. All Team Managers and, in Adult Club, Captains are required to attend Committee meetings.

The current committee can be seen on our Members Area
